This video was recorded during January 17, 2023

About the Speaker

Aria Vaishnavi, PhD

CPRIT Scholar of Cancer Research & Assistant Professor, Cancer Biology

MD Anderson UT

Dr. Aria Vaishnavi completed her doctoral studies at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, where she focused on oncogenic gene fusions in lung cancer. She went on to do her postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Martin McMahon at the University of Utah’s Huntsman Cancer Institute, where she studied mechanisms of lung cancer initiation and progression in mouse models of BRAF-mutant lung cancer. A few months ago, Dr. Vaishnavi began her independent research group and faculty appointment at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

The Vaishnavi lab’s broad research interests focus on improving our understanding of the molecular mechanisms that drive initiation, maintenance, and progression of lung adenocarcinoma and to use those findings to identify innovative, clinically-relevant therapeutic approaches. We combine genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs), patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models, and in vitro culture systems of lung cancer to identify mechanistically-based therapeutic approaches to be tested preclinically.
